Why Go greek?

This question crosses many college students’ minds at one time or another in their college experience.  They see the many upsides of Greek life but are plagued with doubts and concerns about whether or not it is the right choice for them. These questions and concerns are common. Fraternities and Sororities offer the opportunities for you to turn your good college experience into a great one. You get the chance to come into contact with new people that possess similar values and interests and will become your friends for life.  Fraternity and Sorority Life helps its members to fully realize their potential through strong friendships and common goals. Going Greek has a large and lasting impact on its members’ lives in many ways, providing learning and leadership experiences, scholarship, brother and sisterhood, community service, and social activities.

Mission statement

The University of Northern Iowa Greek Community is dedicated to providing its members a memorable experience during their time at college. We believe in the four pillars of: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Friendship developing these pillars is the mission of UNI Greek Community.

The Greek community at the University of Northern Iowa has a long, rich tradition of supporting student involvement and development. Since 1935, students have chosen to become members of fraternities and sororities at UNI because of the advantages these organizations provide. Greek societies can be traced back to their beginnings to a group of young students in 1776. These societies were founded on the ideals of leadership, community service, and friendship. Each of our Greek organizations at UNI continue to uphold these ideals.
